COVID-19
COVID-19 Protocols for MVWS Families as of 1/10/22
For future possible exposures (including this week) we are now able to shift to a “modified quarantine” regardless of student or staff vaccination status.
See flowchart here or, if you’re more of a bullet point person, please read below.
- This means we will not need to quarantine classes if:
- well-fitting masks with effective filters are worn (students with specific needs may be exempt) inside and outside unless eating with a minimum of 6 ft. of distance (outside)
- exposed students remain asymptomatic
- exposed students aren’t part of an “outbreak” which is typically three or more students in a group/class
- exposed students test x2/week (preferably 1 day and 5 days after exposure)
- do not need to wait for test results to be in class however those students needs to quarantine at home without participating in extracurricular activities.
- Students who test positive:
- isolate for 5 days, test on day 5 (preferably with a rapid test which we will have on-site soon)
- test must be negative to return or can choose to quarantine for full 10 days (returning on day 11)
- must be fever-free for 24 hours and asymptomatic or dramatically decreased symptoms to return on day 6
- A Close Contact is defined as members of same household or unmasked play date, sleepover, athletic activity, etc.
- If someone has been in Close Contact 1-2 days prior to (or after) someone testing positive, they need to quarantine, test on day 5 and can return on day 8 if test results are negative.
- Classmates of close contacts do not need to quarantine.
- For example, if my 3rd grader tested positive she would isolate and test on day 5 and:
- Her classmates do not need to quarantine if requirements like masks, eating outside, etc. were met
- Her preschool sister would need to quarantine, test on day 5 & if negative could return on day 8
- Sister’s preschool classmates do not need to quarantine
- Testing
- Flow Health Lab is receiving, on average, 36,000 samples to test/day. They have closed most of their public sites and they give priority to their corporate and school providers (like us). This is unprecedented and they are working round-the-clock to catch up. If you choose to test elsewhere, you need to submit results to health@maplevillageschool.org
- Register for COVID testing via Flow Health here.
- For the week of 1/17/22 we will not be offering community testing unless there has been a close contact direct exposure. Please contact Andi Levine at health@maplevillageschool.org.
- We will begin using rapid tests on-site as early as the week of January 24th. We are partnering with Heluna Health and we will begin using rapid tests for students needing to test twice/week due to possible exposure (see modified quarantine info), for weekly faculty & staff, and for students that have developed symptoms while at school. We will not have rapid tests for family members. However, there is a new program to cover the cost for at home tests through your healthcare provider or over-the-counter.
